GOC CARE Aged and Community Care Services

Mission Statement

GOC Care will provide community-based responses which support people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALDB) and the general community to remain at home and participate in their community.

GOC Care™s Home and Community Care (HACC) services provide home-based care services for persons aged 65+ years (50+ years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and their carers under the Commonwealth HACC Program and the Community Care Program which is state funded for younger people with disabilities and their carers under 65 years (under 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people).

In-Home Care Packages

Community Aged Care Packages (CACP)

The Community Aged Care Packages, funded by the Federal Department of Health and Ageing, are co-ordinated packaged of services to assist people with complex care needs to remain living in their own home. Clients seeking Community Care Packages assistance are assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) to determine eligibility and level of care required.

GOC CARE PACKAGES CAN PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH MOST PERSONAL AND HOUSEHOLD ACTIVITIES INCLUDING:
Case Management
Showering
Shopping
Housework and light maintenance
Meals
Transport to appointments
Home Respite
Referral to other agencies
Spiritual/Cultural needs

Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) Packages

EACH packages support clients needing a high or complex level of care to remain in their own homes.

An individually-tailored EACH package can provide:

nursing care
medication assistance
domestic assistance respite care
social support
meal preparation
transport
shopping
allied health services (eg. physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy)
personal care (hygiene / bathing and dressing)
mobility aids and equipment and clinical care aids
Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia (EACHD) Packages

We also provide EACHD packages for older people who experience various psychological and behavioural symptoms of dementia, and require a high level of care and support to continue living in their own homes.

Individually-tailored EACHD packages include all of the services above and input from qualified nurses, as well as access to allied health services as required.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for in-home care, clients must undergo an assessment with an Australian Government Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). Â The ACAT will assess the level of care required (ie. high or low), and establish how physical and psychological independence can be best maintained.

GOC Care receives funding from the Australian Government to provide in-home care packages. Â Care recipients are required to pay a Government-determined fee. Â We are able to negotiate fee reductions in situations of financial difficulty.

Omonoia Project

GOC Care is pleased to introduce Omonoia (Greek meaning “ομόνοια” – “concord / harmony), a new culturally appropriate care project promoting ‘healthy, harmonious and happy living’ amongst the Greek community’s older people (65+ years) and their family carers in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Townsville.  This project is funded by the Federal Department of Health and Ageing.

What do we do?

Assist Greek older people and their family carers to access culturally appropriate, aged care services in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Townsville.
Provide resources and information to support family carers of Greek older people living with Dementia.
Promote and sustain healthy ageing for Greek older people and their carers including younger family members.
Develop and provide multi-media CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) educational resources for aged care service providers eg. Website, Facebook, You-tube, Dvd’s.
Support service providers to help deliver culturally appropriate aged care for Greek older people and their carers.
In summary, the “Omonoia Project” provides: Â readily accessible and cost effective multi-media cultural resources including Facebook, You-tube and web-based resources to inform service providers, about the Greek language, culture, faith, family structure and family dynamics, to assist them to better communicate with and cater more effectively to the needs of Greek older people and their families.

The Program focuses on health ageing with social activities that are fun, educational and which promote health and well-being.

Playgroup program – promotion of Greek language and culture for children 1 – 5 years of age. Playgroup meets every Wednesday in a bi-cultural atmosphere for pre-school and their mothers and grandmothers.

DISABILITY SERVICES
Funded by the Department of Disability Services Queensland

Estia House – Residential Respite Facility

Estia House is a 24 hour/7 days a week Respite facility that provides block respite from one to four weeks to children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities.

Carer Support

Estia Disability Parent Support Group meets monthly.

Father Dimitri Tsakas

Father Dimitri Tsakas was born and raised in Australia. Ordained by His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos to the Diaconate in 1991 and to the Priesthood in 1994, he currently serves as Proistamenos at the Parish-Community of Saint George in Brisbane. He represented His Eminence in the capacity of Archepiscopal Vicar for the 4th Archdiocesan District of Queensland and Papua New Guinea of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia from 2000-2019.

Cultural Committee

The Cultural Committee of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George was established in 1974 under the chairmanship of the Late Alex Freeleagus, Consul General for Greece in Queensland. The cultural committee successfully staged three Greek Expos (Ekthesis) in 1976, 1978 and 1981.
