Youth GOYA

Greek Orthodox Youth of Australia Brisbane Branch.

What is GOYA?

The Greek Orthodox Youth of Australia, or GOYA, is a national youth program of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. Its main activities within Greek Communities nationally include fellowship, service, and social activities. In addition to this the group and its program reflect the Orthodox Christian Faith and traditions.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission and goal of GOYA Brisbane is to lead the Greek youth of Brisbane into experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith along with getting involved in community focused fund raising activities and in meeting fellow youth members of our community, in Brisbane and the great south-east corner of Queensland.

ACTIVITIES and FUND RAISING

GOYA currently is involved in organising some of the following activities for the youth:

GOYA TOUCH – Annual Touch Football competition held from October to December. The last ten years we have seen a large growth in the number of touch football teams; seeing over 14 teams play and compete last season (2014).

GOYA GREEK NIGHTS – At various times of the year GOYA in conjunction with other youth groups (Cypriot Youth of Brisbane) hosts Greek Nights; a night of dancing and socialising with the latest modern Greek music direct from some of our very own youth DJs – such as DJ Kossi and DJ Nicky Zee and DJ Jordy G.

PANIYIRI – GOYA Brisbane currently participates in the annual Greek Festival of Brisbane “PANIYIRI GREEK FESTIVAL” and is well known for organising the annual official Paniyiri After Party called TRELLA.

JUNIOR GOYA – GOYA also is proud to coordinate its youth programme for the younger members of our community. JUNIOR GOYA holds monthly social and religious events/activities throughout the year; focusing on developing Orthodox Faith, along with a sense of community, identity and acceptance within the younger populace of our community.

All proceeds from our events are donated back to the Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane. In the last decade, GOYA made significant contributions to the following: St Nicholas Nursing Home, Greek Orthodox Church of St George, The Greek Ethnic School of Saint George, Brisbane, Olympic Soccer United Football Club and the GOC Care and Welfare department. Our goals in the future include continuing to support these community services, facilities and more.
